I Wasn’t Ready to Share It. But Here I Am.

Building in PublicProduct

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t ready to share my product.

There were still things I wanted to improve. Things I wanted to polish. Things I thought needed to be “just a little bit better” before putting it in front of people.

But then I realised something:

That’s exactly the problem.

If BBF: Build or Be Forgotten — is about building, sharing, learning, and putting things into the world…

I probably can’t hide behind “it’s not ready yet.” So here I am. Sharing it anyway.

Meet SafeTrack , built by Dorel Ciprian Nafornita (me) / SIMPLionEX .

And here’s the funny part: This wasn’t even supposed to become what it is today.

It started with a competition

The original idea for SafeTrack came from a Lovable competition.

  • The challenge was simple: Build something over a weekend.

  • There was a prize too: 1,000 Lovable credits.

  • I started thinking about what I could build… and then an idea landed: A fire drill / fire safety app.

Simple enough to tackle in a weekend. Interesting enough to try. So I started building.

One weekend became many late nights

The competition ended. But SafeTrack didn’t.

The original version evolved. Then it evolved again. And again.

Ideas changed. Features changed. The product changed.

What started as a weekend experiment slowly became something much more serious.

The uncomfortable part

Here’s what I learned along the way:

Building the product was only part of the challenge. The harder part was deciding when it was actually ready to share. Because builders are very good at finding reasons not to launch.

“This needs one more feature.” “The design could be better.” “I need to fix this.” “Maybe next week.”

And before you know it, months pass… and very few people have actually seen what you’re building. That’s the trap.

You can always find another thing to build. But eventually, you need to put the thing you’ve built in front of someone.

From competition project to SafeTrack

What started as a weekend experiment became something much bigger than I expected. SafeTrack is now live. 👉 safetrack.simplionex.com

What is SafeTrack? A simple, offline‑capable fire drill & fire safety app for workplaces.

The product today is very different from the idea that first came into my head during that Lovable competition. Because if I had stopped at the weekend challenge… SafeTrack wouldn’t exist in its current form.

The competition gave me the deadline. The problem gave me the motivation. But the iterations gave me the product.

What I learned from building it

1️⃣ Start before you’re ready

  • If I had waited until I knew exactly what SafeTrack should become, I probably wouldn’t have started. Version 1 didn’t need to be perfect. It needed to exist. Version 1 creates the possibility of Version 2.

2️⃣ Constraints can be useful

  • Having a full‑time job meant I couldn’t spend every day working on SafeTrack. That sounds like a disadvantage. Sometimes it was. But it also forced focus. When you only have a few hours, you become very conscious of what actually matters.

3️⃣ Don’t confuse building with progress

  • This one hurt a little. Adding another feature feels like progress. Changing a button colour feels like progress. Refactoring something for the third time definitely feels like progress. But sometimes progress is much simpler: Put it in front of someone. Let them use it. Watch what happens. Listen. Then build.

So… did I win?

No.

I didn’t win the Lovable competition. I didn’t get the 1,000 credits.

But looking back, I’m glad I entered.

Because I got something I didn’t expect:

I got a reason to start.

And that weekend idea became a product that survived multiple iterations, countless evenings, and quite a few late nights.

That’s a different kind of prize.

And yes… I’m finally sharing it.

Not because it’s perfect. Not because every feature is finished.

But because at some point, you have to stop building in private.

You have to let people see it. Use it. Question it. Break it. Tell you what’s missing.

And then… Build again.

The real lesson

Maybe that’s what BBF: Build or Be Forgotten is really about.

Not building perfect things. Not having unlimited time. Not having all the answers. And definitely not waiting until you feel ready.

It’s about taking the idea sitting in your head… and doing something with it.

Even if you only have weekends. Even if you have a full‑time job. Even if you’re not sure where it’s going. Even if you’re not ready to share it.

Because sometimes:

The product you almost didn’t share is the product that teaches you the most.

So…

Here I am. SafeTrack is live.

Now it’s time to find out what happens when someone other than me actually uses it. 😅
